As you can see, it's been awhile since I last posted. There hasn't been a whole lot to post about, so I've been doing other things that are on the "must do" list, like: "I must stop listening to the little voices in my head."
No, I'm not insane, the most prominent little voice is the one that keeps telling me that I could really go for a cigarette right now.

37 and Counting
It's 3:54 am and I'm still awake, thanks to putting on a new fentanyl patch this morning. It's a great painkiller, and it's really helped me become a bit more active, but it sucks when it's time for bed.
Just a little under 2 hours ago, I turned 37 years old. Of course, by my age, birthdays have long since become just another day. This year is bittersweet. I'm full of joy that in just 4 more months, I'll get to hold my son for the very first time. On the flip side, just a little over 5 years ago, I was hospitalized for the first time due to my autoimmune syndrome, and that's a major downer.
That incident actually occurred in October of 2003, but for some reason this is the day that I just happened to remember the experience. Continue reading "37 and Counting" »

Boys and Toys
Not much today went right, other than my finally getting some paint on the nursery walls. Everything else seemed to go south. My wife's purse was stolen and we ended up forking out way too much cash getting new locks for all of the doors. To make matters worse, our latest ultrasound pictures of Connor were in her purse. That means we just lost one of the most precious things we were planning to save. Like I said, everything sort of went south.
On a lighter note, I've been thinking of all of the fun I'll get to have with my future son. I plan to enjoy reliving my childhood vicariously through him. Continue reading "Boys and Toys" »

One Cigarette, Two Cigarette...
Lately, I've been busy doing things around the house and running all over 3 counties looking at baby furniture and other necessities. I'm hoping to finally get around to putting the first coat of paint on the nursery walls this week. We've got the paint and the tools, now all I have to do is finish moving the last few things out of the room and I can get to brushing and rolling. None of this is a big deal, though. I can handle this on all but the worst of days.
The problem is, I'm also trying to quit smoking, and that ain't going so hot. Continue reading "One Cigarette, Two Cigarette..." »

A Night To Remember
I don't intend for this to ever become a political blog, although yesterday or the day before, I posted a pretty long rant about a particularly offensive ad placed here in North Carolina by one of our senate candidates. I deleted it, because honestly, it just wasn't the right place to put it.
This is a place where I want my kids to be able to come to some day and read what I've written here, so that they can see what was going through my mind both before and after they were born. This post does have a political slant, but unlike the other, it is a positive slant, not a negative one.
Tonight, like a lot of folks in America, and all over the world, I had the pleasure of witnessing history in the making. Not only did I get to witness the election of the first black President of the United States, but I got to witness what I hope will be the end of the claims of stolen elections that have plagued the past two Presidential elections. I'm sure that sometime in the future, such claims will be made again, but if I'm lucky, they won't be during my lifetime.
You may not like President-elect Obama. You may not agree with him on some, or even all, of his policy ideas. However, to deny that this has been a historic election would be to deny reality. No matter what part of the political spectrum you sit on, no matter what the color of your skin, or the religious beliefs or unbeliefs you follow, tonight was a night to remember. Pregnant Chicks Are HOT!
One thing I’ve noticed since my wife got pregnant is that I find her more and more irresistible. My love for her has grown and I just can’t resist cuddling or spooning more often. There’s something about putting your arms around the woman that’s carrying your child that just feels good.
If you haven’t experienced this yet, then you should sit back sometime and just watch her while she’s doing something and might not notice you looking her over.

Playing the Hormonal Card
If you’re already a father or an expectant father, then you probably know all you’ll ever want to know about a woman’s mood swings caused by the hormonal changes brought about by pregnancy. If you have never been around a pregnant woman then you’re probably in for some surprises.
I’ve heard some men tell horror stories, but with my wife, the mood swings haven’t been so bad, and so far, I’ve avoided getting yelled at. Then again, we’re really close and communicate very well with each other, so I’m sure that’s a factor, too. Got that, guys? Talk to your partner –you’ll get yelled at less. Put it in your little rule book, and if you don’t have a rule book, go buy a small notepad and start one!

Work, work, work, work, work...
It seems that lately all I've been doing is working - around the house, in the nursery, and now trying to get Daddy-Wolf.com up and running as well. When you're disabled like I am, then this easily becomes overwhelming and causes the physical problems to flare up. This week I've been getting a break from the physical side of things due to pulling something in my back while moving furniture last week.
It was right after we found out that our baby was a boy, and I got a bit over-enthusiastic. The day after the ultrasound, we had some folks come in and put down new carpet in the empty spare bedroom that we hadn't been using in forever. Note to everyone, never, never, ever us an empty bedroom as a home for sick cat. It was a nightmare. I ended up pulling up the old carpet in disgust and then set about painting the room. In what might have been a bit of psychic insight, I picked a light blue color for the room, which will later become my son's room when we have another kid. We're hoping to do that in another 2 years or so.

Baby Girl or Baby Boy
We've just hit the 18th week mark, and my wife has been walking around for about 3 weeks now with her hand on her growing belly. I think it's cute and usually can't resist chuckling when I see her doing it. She's wearing some clothes now that would have been huge on her before, but now fit well. Pretty soon, we'll be shopping for maternity clothing.
Yesterday, though, was the big day - we finally had the ultrasound that would tell us whether we're having a boy or a girl. Continue reading "Baby Girl or Baby Boy" »
